猫咪社区 (SCCC) is proud to announce that two graduates of its High School Equivalency (HSE) Program have been awarded the only two New Jersey Association for Lifelong Learning (NJALL) Scholarships presented statewide this year, an extraordinary achievement that highlights both the determination of the students and the excellence of the College's Adult Education program.
The scholarship recipients are:
Jairo (Jay) Hernandes, an HSE graduate currently enrolled at SCCC and serving as a Student Ambassador.
Elisangela (Lisa) Silva, an HSE graduate who will begin the College's Culinary Arts program this September.
NJALL annually awards just two competitive scholarships to graduates of New Jersey Adult Education programs who have earned their high school diploma through an adult education program and are continuing their education at an accredited college or university. The scholarships recognize students who have demonstrated perseverance, academic achievement, and a commitment to continuing their education. Eligible applicants must be New Jersey residents, have earned a New Jersey high school diploma through an Adult Education program, and be accepted to or enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution. The students will receive $8,000 each ($2,000 per year), plus a bonus for completing their associate and bachelor鈥檚 degrees.
Receiving both statewide scholarships is an exceptional accomplishment for 猫咪社区 and reflects the impact of its HSE faculty and staff in helping students transform their lives through education.
"We could not be prouder of Jay and Lisa for this incredible accomplishment," said Sara Gorst, HSE Program Coordinator. "Their determination, resilience, and commitment to achieving their goals have been inspiring to witness. To have both NJALL scholarship recipients come from our program is an incredible honor and speaks to the dedication of our students, instructors, and staff who work together every day to help adult learners succeed. These scholarships are well deserved, and we are excited to see all they will accomplish."
The High School Equivalency Program at SCCC provides adults with opportunities to earn a New Jersey High School Diploma, improve English language skills, strengthen workforce readiness, and prepare for college and career success.
By continuing their education at 猫咪社区, both Jay and Lisa are taking the next step toward rewarding careers while serving as inspiring examples for other adult learners throughout New Jersey.
