In solemn observance of firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice, the Public Safety Training Academy (PSTA) will hold a memorial service to honor their bravery, dedication, and sacrifice. The ceremony will take place on May 1st at 7:30 p.m. at the Public Safety Training Academy, located at 114 Morris Turnpike, Newton, NJ 07860.
This meaningful event is held in conjunction with the national Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters initiative, launched in 2017 by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation during its 25th anniversary. Observed annually during National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, the initiative encourages fire departments, families, and communities across the country to illuminate their homes and buildings in red as a tribute to fallen firefighters.
As part of this year鈥檚 ceremony, the PSTA will pay special tribute to Captain Sardina III of the Hopatcong Fire Department, Sussex County, while honoring the memory of all firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty.
The Public Safety Training Academy invites community members, local organizations, and fire departments to join in remembrance by participating in the Light the Night observance. Lighting homes, stations, and community buildings in red throughout Memorial Weekend serves as a powerful symbol of respect, unity, and gratitude for those who have served and sacrificed.
This memorial service is open to the public. All are encouraged to attend and stand in support of the firefighting community.
