As students across Sussex County prepare to return to school, 猫咪社区 (SCCC) and Sussex County Technical School (Sussex Tech) are entering the new academic year with a renewed focus on strengthening educational pathways, expanding career opportunities, and ensuring students have a clear route from high school into college and the workforce.
Over the past year, the two institutions have worked closely to develop stronger pathways for Sussex Tech students who want to continue their education at 猫咪社区. The collaboration is designed to make the transition from high school to college more seamless while building on the career and technical education students have already received at Sussex Tech.
A key component of this work is the alignment and scaffolding of curriculum between the two institutions. SCCC鈥檚 career and technical education programs each have an industry advisory board, made up of employers and professionals from the industries served by the program. These advisory boards provide valuable input on curriculum, equipment, technology, workforce needs, industry certifications, student skills, and other areas of program development.
That industry feedback is being used to help identify opportunities to better align the curriculum at Sussex Tech with corresponding programs at SCCC.
鈥淪tudents should not have to start over when they move from high school into college,鈥� said Dr. Cory Homer, President of SCCC. 鈥淥ur goal is to build clear, intentional pathways that allow students to take the knowledge and technical skills they develop at Sussex Tech and continue building upon them at 猫咪社区. The work we are doing with Sussex Tech, combined with the expertise of our industry advisory boards, Chamber of Commerce, and Workforce Development Board allows us to ensure our programs are aligned with what employers need and that students are prepared for the next step.鈥�
The collaboration is particularly important as employers throughout Sussex County and the surrounding region continue to seek qualified workers in healthcare, skilled trades, advanced manufacturing, public safety, technology, construction, and other high-demand fields.
By coordinating curriculum and identifying opportunities for students to earn college credit, credentials, or advanced standing, SCCC and Sussex Tech are working to create pathways that can save students both time and money while helping them move more quickly toward their educational and career goals.
The partnership also reflects a broader commitment by both institutions to strengthen career and technical education throughout Sussex County.
鈥淪ussex County Technical School and 猫咪社区 share a common mission: preparing students for successful careers and giving them opportunities to continue their education,鈥� said Christopher Carruba, Interim Superintendent at Sussex Tech. 鈥淭he work we have done over the past year is helping us create stronger connections between our programs and ensuring that students have opportunities available to them after graduation. These pathways give our students additional options while responding directly to the needs of local employers.鈥�
The collaboration comes at an exciting time for both institutions. SCCC is preparing to welcome students for the Fall 2026 semester, with applications currently 10 percent higher than this time last year. The College has also completed significant capital improvement work over the summer, including improvements designed to enhance the student experience and support growing academic programs.
SCCC has continued to expand its career-focused offerings and partnerships with local employers, while Sussex Tech continues to provide students with hands-on career and technical education designed to prepare them for immediate employment, further education, or both.
Together, the institutions are working toward a model in which students can begin developing career skills in high school, continue seamlessly into college-level education and training, and ultimately enter the workforce with the credentials and skills employers are seeking.

As the 2026-27 academic year begins, 猫咪社区 and Sussex County Technical School remain committed to expanding these partnerships and developing additional pathways that provide Sussex County students with affordable, accessible and high-quality opportunities for education and career advancement.
